Embracing destiny
Every session with a client is an act of destiny retrieval. During my shamanic training, I was taught how to track a person's energetic momentum into the future and nudge it toward their destiny. However, the longer I’ve practiced, I’ve realized that every soul retrieval I perform or toxic cord I cut helps them toward that end as well.
One time I performed a destiny retrieval for a woman who made a huge career change later in life. A few months later she was selected from among hundreds of applicants for her dream job. Others have found peace and comfort in situations they never imagined for themselves.
I once talked to a shaman who told me he makes his clients come to him for a long time before he will track their destiny. He wanted to make sure they were truly ready for what they were signing up for. He has a point, but I don’t share his opinion.
I’ve seen destiny retrievals (temporarily!) ruin people. As everyone knows, when you head in the wrong direction, the universe will absolutely let you know. To that shaman's point, when you shift the path life is calling the person toward, you better make sure they're willing to follow it!
That said, I had a patient who flat-out rejected a destiny retrieval, even with her life at stake. She was dying, and her husband had found me out of desperation. In my first session with her, I tracked a beautiful future for her where she was happy and healthy.
When I told her what I found and explained how I could help her anchor that future, she smiled and nodded, but told me it wasn’t to be so. She was tired of living, and nothing I, her husband, or anyone could do to change her mind.
Tragically, she knew what I said was true and possible, but she simply wasn’t interested in her life anymore. She passed away a few months later. I share the full story in On Shamanism: Essays for Practitioners.
Practical Tips
A qualified shaman can help you find and connect you with your destiny. But there are, of course, things you can do on your own. I do want to stress something important, though; destiny is not manifestation.
Destiny is something you were born to do, but never knew or expected. In essence, it’s a fulfillment of a hidden purpose. Manifestation, on the other hand, is something you wanted that you willed to happen.
Manifestation relies on the idea that you know yourself and what’s best for you. Sure, at times you do, but not always. Destiny, on the other hand, allows Spirit to take the reins and lead you towards its goal.
If you want to connect with your destiny, then you need to surrender your future. Allow Spirit the space to sweep you off your feet and carry you towards a life you never imagined for yourself. Spirit knows you better than you know yourself, and if you say ‘yes,’ it will show you something wonderful.
